Our 2012 Annual Fall Breakfast
“I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river, I've got peace like a river in my soul”, the children from “Camp Peace” sung loudly to welcome the more than 200 people in attendance to our annual fall breakfast in support of Fellowship House.
“You hear a lot about the bad in the city, but there are good things happening in Camden too; Fellowship House is one of those things” said Brita, a parent whose daughter is in our children’s program. “My son knows so much about the Bible because of Fellowship House, that he even teaches me” said Sandra, a parent who has two kids attending “Camp Peace”. Their gratitude and joy lit up the room.
Testimonies like this and many more of growth and change were shared throughout the breakfast. Two teens who graduated from our children’s program, and now work at Fellowship House through our teen job training program as “Teen Leaders”, shared how growing up at Fellowship House protected them from the temptations surrounding them in the city.
“Fellowship House was there for me when I was struggling” said Charlene, who came to know about Fellowship House through our Food Bag Giveaway. She now volunteers in our women’s ministry.
Cleveland, who after years of struggling with addiction, wanted a breakthrough. “One day my father reminded me of a place I used to go to when I was a kid - it was called the Fellowship House”, shared Cleveland. Within a short time Lucy, our Addictions Services Program Director, put him on a bus on his way to a new life. After completion of his Christian rehab program, Fellowship House helped Cleveland find a job; in fact he is doing so well the President & CEO of the company informed those in attendance of the stellar work Cleveland is doing.
For over 45 years Fellowship House has provided local ministry to hundreds of children, teens, and adults of South Camden. Through our after school programs, summer camps, addiction services, food and clothing ministry, teen job training and more, Fellowship House continues to impact the city of Camden. Together we’re making a difference; together we’re changing lives.
